Novus Swell was started to highlight Hawaii grom surfers. It was originally started as an online magazine but we found out kids don't read the articles but just watching the videos... so we've decided to do videos episodes (webisodes) every Tuesday. Enjoy and let us know how we can improve! -- Kaz Sano --

S4W08: NSSA Hawaii event at Haleiwa

NSSA HI held its event at Haleiwa on North Shore of Oahu this past weekend. Saturday was perfect for younger kids with fun size waves and Sunday was perfect for older kids with challenging big over head size waves. When older kids showed up to the event on Sunday, they were stoked! It's amazing how these boys and girls were surfing on these waves.
Indie Pyzel and Kylie Nagy had their birthday beach party over the weekend at Ehukai Beach in North Shore. No, it's not your typical birthday party where kids dress up and try to stay clean, their party was all about FUN!
North Shore was supposed to be weird with mixed swell and wrong wind. We heard West side is where to be, so Ezekiel Lau and I went over there to surf some not so welcoming to non locals spots with Matty Costa and Kaulana Apo.
It's really hard for kids in town to go to North Shore middle of the week. By the time they are done with school, there's traffic leaving town. So when surf reports say there's going to be a swell on weekends, these town kids are stoked.
We had some fun days in January on here on Oahu, Hawaii. Feels like when waves were big, we had contests... so mostly fun size waves on this free surf sessions webisode.

HSA held it's first event of 2012 at Maili Point this past weekend. Waves were small and weak, not as good as everyone hoped for. When you are a contest surfer, you need to deal with less than ideal waves all the time. They all did best and was having a blast, ripping out there!
Zeke had a very productive 2011. He won two 4 star QS events, 2nd place in another 4 star QS event, done well in Jr Pro, won an HIO event and qualified to surf in Haleiwa and Sunset events of the Triple Crown. I sat down with a Kamehameha school senior Zeke to see what he's been doing to have a great year like he did in 2011.

HSA held it's event at Makaha this past weekend. Makaha on the west side of Oahu is known for it's beautiful beach, great waves and crazy backwash. The waves were super fun both days and kids were out there surfing great. Some had crazy wipeouts from the backwash tho. haha.
Hawaii is known for it's waves in North Shore during winter season, BUT it's hard for kids who live and go to school in town to go surf in north shore all the time. Here's what kids in town do when there's no swell in town but just strong wind.
